Daryl has been married to Holly for over 30 years. Together, they have five children now living in Chicago, IL; Akron, OH and Logan, WV.

Family is important to Daryl and Holly and they have close connections to their children and extended family across the country. Their favorite times are the holidays that bring the family together to play, eat and laugh together!
Daryl feels that families are important for the strength of communities. The support and encouragement that comes from loving family members helps everyone in that family to do their best in school, at work and serving in the community.
Ideally, families with children have both a father and mother to provide for those children what each parent instinctively gives. But the reality of life means that some families are not made up ideally. That is when community is so important, to be surrogates to help each other in good times and bad. Community churches, temples and synagogues also contribute to helping and developing healthy families through their care in the community as well as spiritual teaching and development for the families of their parish. As a last resort, governments should be prepared to help families who need assistance to best care for and provide for every family member.
As a Christian, Daryl believes that the Bible teaches that God’s ideal for a marriage relationship is between a man and a woman in a monogamous, life-long relationship. However, he does not believe that the government should too deeply entangle itself in family dynamics by either permitting or prohibiting by law particular marriage arrangements. Additionally, special protections should not be provided for any type of marriage arrangement or sexual orientation, but it is important that all people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or any other differentiating factor, be treated with dignity and respect and not be individually discriminated against because of who they are or what they believe.
